My Happy Failure

As I sat outside under our gazebo, I began sketching this view of our hot tub, hammock and pool. This took me about 2 hours to render this sketch. Lots and lots of erasing! I was very pleased with myself as I was sketching from a real scene for the first time, and not a photo.

Once I captured an image of my view on my phone, I compared my sketch to it and realized that I was way off on the hot tub, not too bad on the hammock and a little crooked on the slide in the back. All in all, it may have seemed to be a failure, but I really enjoyed the beauty of the day, sitting outside with my hubby, and trying my best to sketch what I saw.

She is Finished!

I am quite pleased with how my color pencil portrait turned out. I especially enjoyed drawing her teeth and hair, which have always been a challenge for me! This is the largest closeup portrait that I have ever done (14x18).
