This past month has been quite exciting as a began my first Intro to Drawing class at the Glasscock School at Rice University. I have been working with new mediums, including charcoal, conte crayon, 2H graphite pencils, and more. I've learned about when drawing and shading a sphere shape, which is actually made up of a lot of straight lines? Who knew?! The most recent technique I learned was using a grid.
Our assignment was to make a grid on the original and enlarge it on drawing paper. However, the catch was that we had to turn it upside down and draw one square at a time while observing all the different mark-making techniques. After about 4 hours (off and on) I was pleased to reveal the finished product. It is not perfect, but I am very proud of what my accomplishment and I look forward to applying this technique to aid in my Realism series of Ladies.
